Ten Wounded Army Soldiers Stand With Active Duty and Volunteer Coast Guard Personnel Before Boarding Launch 5 at Pier 83 in Manhattan for a Cruise Through NY Harbor and Rockaway Inlet |
On October 13, 2006 Launch 5 and her crew were honored to take ten wounded combat soldiers for a tour of NY Harbor.
Ten U.S. Army soldiers from Walter Reed Medical Center who were on a multi-day tour of NYC, were driven to Pier 83 in Manhattan by a motorcade of vintage NYPD patrol cars driven by their volunteer-owners. At Pier 83, they boarded Launch 5 - a vintage NYPD patrol launch - for a tour through NY Harbor, past the Trade Center site, the Statue of Liberty and out to Rockaway where they were reunited with their motorcade and taken to dinner.
These men, who have given so much for us, were an absolute pleasure to be around and we were honored to be a part of their day.
